Goods from the East moved to Europe through Constantinople mainly and so did the plague. In fact, it is through Constantinople and moved further throughout Mediterranean countries. From the Mediterranean, the plague spread further throughout Europe affecting more and more countries. In such a way, the plague spread throughout Europe in the course of several years and affected the large population of Europe causing numerous deaths and depopulation of Europe.

At the same time, symptoms of the disease were different in the East and in the West. To put it more precisely, the nose bleeding in the East was the major symptom, which marked the upcoming death of patients.

In stark contrast, nose bleeding was not a symptom of the Black Death in Europe. Instead, Europeans suffered from lumps in the groin or armpits. After the appearance of the lumps, livid black spots appeared on the arms and thighs and other parts of the body.

Ill people died within three days. In such a way, the disease was extremely dangerous and people died fast, whereas the contamination meant virtually certain death to ill persons. One of them was Florence. At the end of 14th century the banking family of the Medici became the ducal housefamily in Florence. Lorenzo di Medici and his son Cosimo were the outstanding rulers: That is why Florence often considered being the birthplace of the Renaissance. The patronage of rulers was the important factor, because artist of that time received the commissions for advance.

Ideas of humanism and its influence on art. First, nudes were once again acceptable subject matter. Secondly, portraits no longer had to be of saints or other Biblical figures. Portraits, beginning in the Early Renaissance, could be painted of actual people. Finally, the landscape, too, crept into fashion — again, due to the fact that humanist thought was more broad than strictly religious thought. Between the new intellectual crowd and the ideas they introduced to the artistic community, it was a great time to be an artist in Florence.

Botticelli started as an apprentice of Fra Filippo Lippi in Florence. Almost all of his life he worked for the noble families of Florence, especially for Medici. In Botticelli was one of several artists chosen to go to Rome to decorate the walls of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.

This beautiful painting is the real masterpiece and one of the best images on history. As it was typical for Renaissance, Botticelli turned to Greece myth about the goddess of beauty, Aphrodite, or Venus, which was born from sea foam. The Venus is nude, though Graces are covering her nudity; that is typical feature of epoch, too. And at last, this is the portrait of real woman, Simonetta Cattaneo de Vespucci.
